Ramanathan of Seekarajapuram was treated in our De-addiction Camp in 1993 and since then has stayed sober. He lives with his old mother. When TCT organised an Eye Camp in his village in 1999, he provided every possible support for the camp. His mother was selected for cataract surgery. When he stayed in the hospital with her, he also took care of the needs of other patients from his village who had also undergone cataract surgery following the camp. He had his first taste of service.Since then, in all the eye camps of TCT, wherever they are held, he offers his service prior to, during and after the camp. When villagers are apprehensive about eye surgery, he motivates them and reassures the family members. He stays with them in the hospital during and after surgery. He has served in over six camps and has indeed become a logistics expert for eye camp. He has proved himself to be a true volunteer. He finds this service intrinsically rewarding and expects no return. We are happy to utilise his service. We are happier that he availed the opportunity given to him to overcome his drinking. |
