Eight-year old Prakash is hemiplegic since birth and has a rheumatic heart condition since he was six months old. His right limbs are affected. He took treatment only in short spells at various hospitals and could not continue treatment due to domestic and traveling constraints. Until a year ago, he could move only with the support of his hand on the floor. TCT got Prakash a Government identity card at its camp in 1998 and since then has been following up for further assistance. He received an educational scholarship. TCTs Rehabilitation Worker Ms.Leeladevi visited him regularly at home and encouraged him to exercise. Prakashs mother, Mrs.Mahalakshmi has also been motivated to give him exercise. In four months time, Prakash was able move on his feet holding the wall. On Ms. Leeladevi’s advice, a parallel bar, to suit his size, was made with bamboo poles. He regularly walks using the parallel bar and is showing continuous improvement. He is a good student and is eager to become like his friends and play with them. |
